G E N G H I S cohen : the whole family!

Matty & Avasa Love

Although we have played monthly at Genghis Cohen since November, this was our second show playing it with a bunch of friends. The original set up of the show, was in all honesty, not the greatest. The producer of the night would book 5 random new artists and had the evening as a showcase for new talent. The issue was that each band only went on for 30 minutes and each band's audience would typically only stay for their 30 minutes. People were constantly leaving which as much of that is an ego-bruise for the band about to get on stage, it is also not smart for the venue.

Jessie Payo

Once Scott & I established ourselves there as regulars with a great and consistant fan base, I was able to convince the man planning the event to let me pick the bands who would play on our nights. I figure this was better for his business because people staying longer would buy more food/drinks and it would be better for the artists since all of our audiences would be committed to staying and we could expose our friends music to our friends and visa versa. We tried it out at the begining of March first and it turned out quite lovely. It was Jessie Payo, Matty & Avasa Love & Us!

niki Paige & mona { raining jane}

At the show last time, Niki Paige { a member of the cafe gratitude staff & community } went up to the producer of the night and asked if she could join us on stage. It would be her first show! So This time around Niki Paige joined us and boy was it packed ! Such a rewarding expierience to see this night finally become what we knew it could! I can not say thank you enough to everyone who comes out, to the venue for giving us a chance, and for all of the other artists who came on board.

S T . N I C K S : naked angels residency

There are a few spots in California that have become homes for Scott & I's music. St.Nicks is certainly one of them, and the entire Naked Angels community has become a family for us. Every tuesday night anywhere from about 60-100 people ( Actors, Writers, Lovers of Theatre ) gather in the upstairs of St.Nicks Pub on West 3rd Street. Five 10-page Scripts are read allowed as part of this cold reading series so Writers can hear their work live. In between the 3rd and 4th script there is a musical guest.

This month...all month... it was us! We got a residency after playing and reading here throughout the year 4 times. We got to tell the entire story of our album, spread out a few songs a week, what a fun way to share it!

On our final week, Emily & Will of the band Fun. ( Will is their touring drummer, emily- vocals/keys/guitar ) joined us on stage to help thicken up the songs. what a HUGE HONOR. they had just finished playing Coachella and happened to be in LA. Since Emily was a part of our studio process she already knew the songs and it all went over quite smoothly.

We have loved making friends over at St.Nicks and sharing our story to such responsive ears. Thanks for the month angels!

M U E L L E R college : san diego show

Jessica Bell & Dawn Mitschele

What a wonderful few weeks it has been.

The first Sunday in April, Scott & I headed down to San Diego for a show with a beautiful group of girls. Jessica Bell . Dawn Mitschele . and Tori.

This was my first show with all three of these girls, and I must say i was so blown away by their talent and beauty. Scott was a lucky lucky man to be on stage that night. I had been to the venue before { Mueller College } to see Bushwalla & Jason's Christmas show, and was so excited to be up on that stage in front of some great san diego friends. I am always so happy to see the support in and from that city! Such wonderful lovers of music there...

If you haven't seen any of these girls live before, i HIGHLY recommend it ... be prepared to be charmed.
